Do you want to communicate with a lot of different people, but don't want to start a messy group chat where everyone can see each other's replies? Wouldn't it be great to have a group text app without reply all?

Well, we thought so too. That's why we created Hit Em Up, the absolute best way to personally mass text messages to individuals. It's a group text app without reply all, and it works out of the box. The best part? It's free to download and try!

Just select the folks you want to send to in your contacts in the app, write your message, and press send! You will be prompted to broadcast individual texts and iMessages that are personal and one on one like a group text bcc. Your recipients will see the text-messages privately like any regular message you would send them directly (think group text bcc, but even more personal because you can customize each text message with your recipients' name and other contact information to make personalized messages in bulk). They can't see the other members of the conversation, so it feels personal and thoughtful.

Hit Em Up lets you even create groups from your contacts in the app or import them from existing groups you may have so you can send to those folks again later. Other cool features include saved templates and text personalization where you can insert (for example) a first-name into the body of your message.

How to send text to multiple contacts without group message?

In times when everybody has at least three messengers, tons of emails, and accounts on social media it seems easy to reach to people. However, when we need to send text to multiple contacts without group message and make sure they read it, SMS is still the #1 way to send mass texts.

Recent research shows that SMS have the highest open rate comparing to emails and messengers. It happens because to see a message on WhatsApp or Telegram people must open the app, while SMS just strike them, and there’s no way out but to see it.

Say you want to notify your customers that your shop starts a massive sale. Emails will likely end up in the spam folder. Group SMS is not an option because it shows your customer that they are not the only one who received it. Everybody wants to feel important so what you need is to personalize those texts. So how to send text to multiple contacts without group message?

Introducing Hit Em Up Mass Texting App

Hit Em Up is an app for iOS for send text messages to multiple contacts without using group message feature. The app is used worldwide by business owners, event promoters, personal accountants, clergymen, fitness coaches and many more audiences. To send texts to multiple contacts you need to:

  1. Select contacts
  2. Write a message
  3. Tap ‘Send’ Hit Em Up ensures none of the texts are spammy, so users need to tap send for each contact. In total, you can send a hundred of SMS to multiple contacts in 2 minutes.

Three simple actions save hours of your time, and the recipients get personalized messages feeling that you care about them. In times when we all have some many ways to communicate, it’s difficult to ensure they read our messages.

Other features

Templates are great when you know you’re going to say the same words to different people, like ‘The meeting has been rescheduled to ::time::. Availability & Subscription

Hit Em Up is currently available for users worldwide, but some features may only be available in USA and Canada. To send texts to multiple contacts without group message, you users need to have an active subscription to the service. The current price is $4.99/month when you buy a year. The great part is, only you need to have the app with an active cellular connection to use it. Your recipients don't even need to know you have it! Messages appear as a normal SMS or iMessage to them.

Disclaimer: We are not providing LEGAL advice in this video or article. We are in no way suggesting that if you follow the rules or tips herein that you would be complying with the law or your local regulations which govern your rights and/ or limitations with regard to sending or receiving communication across any medium. If you have concerns about the legal implications and ramifications of your desired texting and messaging needs, we suggest you seek proper legal counsel. We are not your agents and take no agency in your actions with regard to your usage of our application and software or any other methods you employ for sending messages or otherwise use communication services or mediums.

We get a lot of confused folks asking us why they can't send a huge list of recipients text messages all at once and why their messages bounce back with a "failure to send" message on iPhone.

If you're sending a small amount of messages, these errors could be related to network connectivity problems on your device, but if you're experiencing these issues when sending a lot of messages, it's more likely that you have been inadvertently flagged for being POTENTIALLY spam and thus got your message rejected.

Cell Phone Carriers and Messaging Service Providers like Apple's iMessage have adapted the technics from e-mail spam filters to try to reduce the amount of unwanted messages such as scams, advertisements to folks who didn't ask for them, and other threats — which we think is a great thing!

The problem is sometimes legitimate emails and text messages get caught in the spam filters too because they LOOK LIKE SPAM, but aren't. And chances are if you're reading this you may feel like this applies to you.

So firstly, we must define what spam is. You may think of it as messages which are unwanted or annoying. But actually there are a few definitions of spam. There is the common definition above, the legal definition, and what carriers and ISP look for in trying to identify it.

This article and video above do not focus on the legal definition because each country and region may have different definitions BUT it is crucial that you educate yourself on the law and obey any rules and regulations which govern your ability to send messages. In the U.S. you may choose to look at F.C.C. regulations and any other state regulations that may govern your rights to use communication and telephony services.

Rather, we're going to look at what carriers' and ISP's definition of spam is and what they are doing to determine what messages are spam to help you get your legitimate messages through the spam detection filters.

To carriers and ISPs: Spam is defined as BULK and UNSOLICITED messages.

Here's the list of ways they try to determine that:

  1. Quantity. Sending a message that says "Happy New Years!!!" to your contacts on your phone will most likely go through, but sending "Happy New Years!!!" to a bunch of folks you don't know would be bad.

  2. Links. Further, carriers look at the type of language and links you include in your text messages. If you use links or link shrinkers which may be commonly used by scammers and spammers (like bit.ly for example), your message looks more like spam. You inherit the reputation of the links you put into your messages.

  3. Brands. Carriers look for phishing attacks by seeing if messages contain references to brands which are not owned by the sender to avoid sending scams which steal credit cards and worse. So don't use or make reference to brands which you don't own.

  4. Identity & Owning Responsibility. Further, carriers and ISPs are looking to see if you keep a consistent identity when you send messages and if it's transparent as to who is sending the message. That means you shouldn't send the same messages from multiple phone numbers and you should have references as to who owns your phone number on some published pages like the white pages and on your website (the more documentation the better). Carriers and ISPs want to see you are responsible for the messages you are sending and are a good actor which means being available to take take complaints from your texting and messaging behavior seriously and that you are not just using a burner phone number or email.

  5. Sending Rate. Carriers and ISPs know what the normal sending rate is for normal people (somewhere around 15-50 messages a minute and no more than 1 per second). The problem is that there are legitimate reasons to want to send at higher volumes because your messages although they may be bulk, are solicited or explicitly desired. Carriers and ISPs are working hard to figure out the difference, but for the time being, you will want to be in that range if you're using your own personal phone number as not to get rate limited by your carrier and have your messages get the "failure to send" error.

  6. Content Should Be Unique and Not Spammy. Make sure your message content does not sound aggressive or salesy.

  7. Consent. For optimal delivery, you want to have the explicit consent of your recipients before you send messages. The best way to do this is to have an opt-in protocol and implement an official way for people to opt-out from receiving messages from you. This is especially important when sending in bulk to a lot of people. Carriers want to see you are giving people a way to not receive messages from you. Also, along the same lines, make sure people know who you are before sending them messages.

That's it! Hopefully this helps you navigate the SMS and email ecosystems and get your bulk messages delivered and read by the people who are eagerly awaiting your messages 😃

If you think you can play by the rules, and you haven't downloaded Hit Em Up already to send your messaging campaigns, here is a direct link to get started: Get Hit Em Up Now!

We’ve talked to a lot of customers here at Hit Em Up and did a little academic research into the question: “How do you get patients and clients to show up for their appointments and reduce the number of no shows?”

How to Increase Text Response Rates

So you may have heard about authority as a great method of persuasion from such writers as Robert Cialdini (and if you haven’t checked out his six methods to persuade, I highly recommend a google search on that), but, as a member of the Hit Em Up Community, do you know what the number one thing you can do to increase your response rate is?

Mass Text Campaign Psychology Tip

Research suggests: A plea for help 1 & 2. Can you believe that? Simply asking for help according to a study which tested the effect of various different methods of attempting to increase online invitation response rates was one of the most effective ways to increase recipients’ responses.

So the next time you send out an invite to an event or want a reply try asking “Can you help me out ::firstname:: and let me know if you can make it to our event tonight?” instead of the command “Please RSVP ::firstname:: to our event tonight!”

Start Mass Text Campaigns in your Network First.

Building a community first will increase response rates.

The study also found that respondents who were active in a shared online community already were more likely to respond 1. The take away for you being that if the people you engage via Hit Em Up Mass Text are people who you have that are active in your community already or who you involve in your community in real life or online before sending your message are far more likely to respond as well. This is pretty consistent across the research we’ve done in house. The more face to face time you have with your recipients before texting them, the better they will respond to your texts which I think makes intuitive sense.

Further, it would seem that engaging people who you’ve engaged with recently before you make an ask with a pre-notification text a

tip

think: “Hey ::firstname:: I’m planning an event coming up and I’ll let you know the details soon”

may increase the odds of them responding to your next follow up 2 text where you let them know about the ‘actionable’ like the invite or call to action to check out your new blog post etc. However, we extrapolated that if you haven’t engaged with the person recently, this pre-text notification is not effective at increasing the response rate (though there’s no evidence that it hurts)b.

So if you could do me a favor and try this out and let me know in the comments below if it works for you, I’d really appreciate it 😃 🙏

Limitations of our Research:

a This particular study focused on authors who published books recently with the publisher sending email notifications to complete a survey. Thus, it may not translate into a one for one with text message behavior or situations other than directly tested in the experiment. We are big proponents of honest research and telling you what we know and what we don’t. We hope our research gives us inferences into behavior for you to help you succeed. It’s up to you to test our hypothesis that we work hard to deduce for you 🙂

b We are extrapolating from the study to apply the findings to something more tangible to you. The original study looked at the various response rates to pre-notifications and the effects on filling out the survey when the follow up message came with the survey. The pre-notification was effective for those who published in 2006 and up, but made no impact on those who published before 2006 (the study was undertaken in 2008 and published in 2011) 2. We interpreted this to mean that it is possible that a pre-notification is helpful when your audience is more recently actively engaged. However, this is not covered directly in the study and it’s our hypothesis based on the findings.
